Merrit Lloyd Kent(1943 - 2019)

Merrit Lloyd Kent, son of the late Floyd and Rosa Kent was born on Saturday, February 13th in 1943 in Chipley, Fl. Merrit graduated from Roulhac High School and was a member of Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the US Army attaining the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged. Merrit was a track repairman for CSX Railroad for 33 years before retiring. Merrit married the love of his life, Mararette Jackson Kent, on February 15th 1963 who preceded him in death to the great beyond on August 13, 2011. On Sunday, April 21st, 2019 in the Washington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Chipley, FL, God called Merrit home to be with him forever more.

He was preceded in death by sisters Catherine Potter, Mable Walker, Mattie Carson, Brothers; Floyd Mitchell Kent, Jr., Howard Kent, Freddie Kent and Leo Kent.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories two sons, Curtis Gerald Kent of Chipley, Fl and Darrin Gardell Kent of Chipley, Fl. Three Grandchildren: Shaneka Kent of Graceville, Fl Aynsley Kent of Los Angeles, CA and Kieran Green of Midwest City, Ok, two great grand children, Hayden Grigsby and Makenna Bradley. Three sisters, Louella Battle of Panama City, Fl, Evelyn Williams of Dayton, Oh, Ethel Williams (George) of Colorado Springs, CO and one brother Mathew Kent of Chipley, FL five sisters-in-law, Willie Jean Thomas of Dothan, Al, Tammie Thomas of Dothan, Al Wendy Jackson of New York, New York and Kelly Jackson Morgan (Roger) of Port St. Lucie, Fl, Rose Kent, Chipley, Fl and one brother-in-law James Samuel Thomas of Dothan Al. along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church located at 816 Sunday Road in Chipley, Florida with Rev. Malcolm Nelson, Officiating and Battle Memorial Funeral Home Directing.
